With Family Fiver

Here at Alice Charity, we believe that family is everything, that help begins at home and we can all do our part to support vulnerable children and families through moments of difficulty and hardship.

Family Fiver is a regular giving initiative. With just £5 per month your donation will enable our Family Support Team to directly deliver our services into our surrounding communities.

In 2017, it was expected that 3.2 million children would be living in poverty by 2020; in 2018 those anticipated figures are now at 5.2 million for ’21-’22. The Institute of Fiscal Studies predicts 37% of UK children will be in relative poverty by 2022.

This growing trend is alarming; however, Alice Charity intervenes with appropriate methods to end the cycles of poverty. Our various projects and campaigns directly target the areas of concern. With more individuals and families experiencing crisis situations, it has never been more important that our community pull together to help our less fortunate neighbours, family members, friends and classmates.

On a daily basis we support those who have been left behind and as a result they are now experiencing ‘absolute poverty’. This means they may have one meal a day or less, they may not have a bed or bedding, they may not have essential home items such as a cooker or a microwave and they may not be able to attend their educational studies due to lack of transportation or equipment.

It can take one moment of misfortune or unforeseen events for a family to unravel. This could be an unexpected pregnancy, a tragic death, parental divorce, mental or physical health deterioration. We pride ourselves on not giving up and on our non-judgmental approach. We empathise with those enduring tough times, we encourage self-sustainability and we also deliver immediate support when urgently required.

During our 9 years, we have been able to help more than 5000+ get back on their feet. Join our growing community movement and transform local lives in North Staffordshire.

Marrissa’s Story

How Alice Charity changed my life

“In 2012 my sister was murdered. This on its own was extremely hard to handle, but what made it even harder was the fact that she left her 18 month old baby behind.

I had to make one of the toughest decisions that I shall ever experience and I threw away my 18 year old life to become a mother to my niece. I didn’t know where to start and for the majority of the time I was constantly double guessing myself as to what my sister would have done, I never trusted my own judgement and maternal instincts. Then I started attending Big Cup, run by Alice Charity.

At first I went for somewhere for her to go and play, make friends and socialise; but I quickly discovered the support that I got from the people there was invaluable.

They helped me with everything, from how serious her cough was, to the first major tantrum she had. But not only that, they pulled me through such a tough time and helped me get back on track. I stayed at college and with help from Alice I have successfully completed my degree at University.

Now, over four years since that life changing day, I work with Alice to support other families the way that they helped me.”
